Marysol: Welcome to the “Un Billón Mindset Podcast.” I am your host, Marysol Uribe, aka @marysol.1billon.mindset. This podcast is all about exceeding expectations. If your role at work is a nurse, you can totally do more than that, as in my case. I am a podcaster, music artist, and I am the host of “Un Billón Mindset Podcast.” Today I have Jeffrey Pinzon, and he has multiple hats as well - business owner, entrepreneur, father. Please introduce yourself, Jeffrey, and I’m honored to have you on the show.
Jeffrey: Absolutely. First and foremost, Marysol, thank you for this opportunity. When you called me I was like, “Yeah, let's do it, man!” I'm all about it, surrounding myself with people that are always bettering themselves and providing value for other people. So like you mentioned, I’m 35 years young, happily married. I have 3 kids. I run a solar company and I also have a podcast called “Unleash Your Power.” We actually created a third company which now we're going to be hosting events called “Go Heavy.” I’m excited. I've got a lot of stuff that I've been learning in my 30 years of living here. I’ve been implementing a lot of the stuff in the last couple of years and seen some results, and it’s exciting. So thank you once again for having me.
Marysol: Absolutely. So from your first business to now your last, go heavy, tell me about that trajectory. What started each?
Jeffrey: How I started. I've been into sales since I was a little kid. I've been selling. I remember in high school and middle school I was that kid that sold candies, chips, clothes to the students and teachers. I always had that entrepreneurship spirit already. I would see my parents selling clothes and appliances, flipping them for a profit. I was like, “Hmm, I’m interested in that. I like that.” As I grew older, I fell in love with it and one of the blessings in disguise was that I was undocumented, so I couldn’t get a 9-5. I couldn't go and get a 9-5 job, so as a result, I had to do something else. I didn't want to get into selling drugs or anything like that. So I’m like, “Hey, what can I do? I’m good at talking to people.” I started selling from the trunk of my car. Fast forward to my first job, my first legit job, was with ADT when I got my work permit. That was door to door sales. I learned tremendously. I was good at selling, but something about knocking on a complete stranger’s door was completely different. It was a mindset shift, so I learned tremendously in that industry. I learned a lot about myself and I started transitioning that to my other businesses. Now everything that I've learned in the alarm industry, we’re implementing it in my solar company. I've been in solar, this is going to be coming up 3 years, so I love what I do. It’s a great product for the consumers and at the same time, I feel like this is kind of a personal development company where we want to bring out the best out in all the people. And solar is just the by-product we offer, but at the end of the day, we get people that want to become better and stronger. Now the third company is “Go Heavy.” We’re gathering masterminds, people that are playing at a high level, to put them together in the room where now people are able to see the possibilities. The possibilities of what happens when you continue moving forward despite the setbacks and the challenges that show up in the process. It’s a beautiful thing when you start up -leveling your life and surrounding yourself with other people, like-minded people. It starts becoming contagious. You start creating different possibilities in your mind like, “Hey, what else can I do? How else can I make a contribution?”
Marysol: Absolutely, and I met Jeffrey at a Driven Event. He was seated front row, center-stage, taking notes, and something that instantly attracted me was how good he was at marketing. He had his Instagram handle on a QR code in the neck, on the back, and sure enough, I scanned your shirt. I looked into it and I was like, “Who is this guy?” There he is! He’s such an open book. He puts himself out there because he knows that you need the information he has, whether it’s thinking about solar, thinking about leveling up, going heavy in your life, going Un Billón.
Jeffrey: Exactly.
Marysol: So what does that mean to you? When did mentorship begin for Jeffrey?
Jeffrey: Oh man, I’ve been mentored throughout my whole life. I remember when I was 18 and I moved out on my own. I actually moved in with my sister’s ex-boyfriend, Diego, and his family. This guy was actually one of my first mentors, and I was just sharing this with my wife the other day. I’m reading a book called “The Silva Mind Control Method,” and he touches on the power of words. I remember when I lived with this gentleman (Diego), I was listening to Tego Calderón, Julio Voltio, and the lyrics were some harsh lyrics. He sat me down and he was like, “Look, man. All that you’re listening to, it might sound good to you, but that’s being programmed in your subconscious mind. The more you listen to it - he grabbed a cup of water, and he said the vibration that those words are giving you is a negative vibration. That’s going to be engraved in your subconscious mind. I was like, “Man, you’re full of it,” in my mind. I was 18 and all wild, and I was like, “You’re full of it.” Little did I know, what he was saying was true. Now I’m conscious of a lot of the stuff. One of my favorite rappers of all time is Tupac. There’s music that I can’t listen to anymore, of Tupac, I’m like, “Oh, I can’t say that. No, I can’t say that either! I can’t sing this song anymore!”
Marysol: *laughter*
Jeffrey: Right? But now I’m conscious of it. That was one of my first mentors, and throughout my career I’ve had different mentors in different stages of my life. I think mentorship is very important - why? Because it supports you to see your blindspots, how you’re showing up to the world. More importantly, if you’re dealing with an issue, you can address that issue with your mentor and they can help you out. Sometimes we want to figure it out all on our own, but a lot of other people have the answer that can support you. So being with the right mentor - I’ve always had a mentor. In sports, you see every successful athlete has a mentor, has a coach. Somebody that is bringing the greatness out of them. Success leaves clues, right? If they’re doing it and playing at a high level, why shouldn’t you? If you want to get to that high level, you need the right people with the right resources. Mentorship is huge with the right mastermind. I just got off of a call that we started two weeks ago. I’ve been doing these calls for the last two and a half years. The group of people in there - there’s a powerful mastermind, a lot of people who are playing a big game, and we’re all sharing with each other. The more that we share, the more that we get. That’s the power of a mastermind and having mentorship because it allows you to see different perspectives. Everybody looks at things differently. When we all come together, we can collectively gather that information and now make ourselves better and the people around us better.
Marysol: Totally, and mentorship can come in different forms. It can be a book, a seminar, a mastermind…
Jeffrey: Absolutely.
Marysol: Tell me about the time that you paid top dollar. Your first time for a big event. Was it a stretch? Did you feel fearful or was it natural for you as the next step in your journey?
Jeffrey: My first event that I paid a good amount of money was Tony Robbins. I did a Business Mastery. That one was 10,000 dollars. Mind you, those were the only 10,000 dollars I had saved. But when you’re in that environment, I wanted to learn. I wanted to gather that information. That was going to allow me to connect with other people. That was going to allow me to see what’s in me, right? I’ve never been afraid of investing in myself. I graduated from high school, but I never went to college. But I’ve paid my tuition. I’ve invested thousands and thousands of dollars in masterminds, events, seminars, and coaching. Every event that I try to go to now, I always try to get the best seat. Why? Because I want to be around that proximity. Now I’m more intentioned. In the beginning, I was a seminar junkie. I was going to every seminar. I was that person. “Oh, you went to that event?” “Yeah, I went to it.” “You went to that event?” “Yeah, I went to it.” Yet, I wasn’t doing anything with that information.Information is all good and dandy, right? All these books have powerful information. It’s meaningless if I don’t do anything about it once I have that information. All that is cute, all that is good, but if I’m not applying it and - I was at a point in my life when I was like, “Man, I’ve gathered so much information, yet I have nothing to show for it.” I had to get out of that conversation. Now I’m looking at it differently, like thank God I invested all that money. Thank God I surrounded myself with all those people. Because now I have all that information. I have countless notebooks of information, and now I can be the vessel to share this with other people. And actually implement it in my life, more importantly. You’ve got to invest in yourself. You’ve got to be willing to invest in yourself because if you don’t, no one else will.
Marysol: Perfect. That’s amazing. Exactly. If you don’t bet on yourself - you’re the one that you spend the most time with in your life, it’s not your spouse, not your kids - you need to be okay with you.
Jeffrey. 100%
Marysol: And if you need to make some changes, read a book, shake some hands, definitely get out of your comfort zone. No growth comes out from a little shell. You have to bloom and become a butterfly.
Jeffrey: Absolutely. To piggyback on what you said, you have to fall in love with yourself. You’ve got to respect yourself. You’ve got to speak life into you. We’re constantly having conversations in our minds all the time. We’ve got to stop and look at - what are those conversations? Are they good? Are they empowering? Are they disempowering? How is that affecting us? How is that supporting us? Be conscious of it. The more that you fall in love with yourself, the more you start caring for yourself and you start carrying yourself differently.
Marysol: I love it, Jeffrey. For our listeners who are experiencing this self-doubt and still see themselves not being able to grow, what do you think is the biggest setback for people?
Jeffrey: I will say, speaking from experience, it’s taking accountability for where you’re at. Where you’re at is a product of your results. Whatever position you are at right now, whether it’s good or bad, if you’re fat or skinny, if you’re out of shape, if your bank account is out of shape - whatever it is, it’s because of your results. Because of the actions you’ve taken or even the inactions - the actions you have not taken. Taking inventory of where you’re at. Becoming vulnerable with yourself. Sometimes we don’t want to be vulnerable because we want to project that image that we’re doing good because of social media. You get in your cocoon, and only you know where you’re at. You’re trying to project this image that, “I’m doing big things,” this and that, but only you know where you’re at. Becoming clear and authentic with yourself is the first step. From there, you’re able to see, “Okay, something is not working. I need to implement something else because if it continues, there’s going to be insanity.” Right? I’m going to be in the same position, doing the same thing and expecting a different result. I’m going to get stuck. As a matter of fact, now my attitude is going to be even more negative because I’m not getting the results that I want. I know what to do, but I’m not doing it. That’s digging yourself deeper. So it is becoming clear. In the course that we’re doing, thinking into results, today’s chapter was the knowing / doing gap. You know what to do. What you want is here, but there’s a gap in between. Your job is to figure out how to close that gap. How to get from here to here, to where you actually want to get to. That comes by you taking inventory, having that accountability, those resources, and surrounding yourself with the right people. We just talked about this today. When you want to change your life, the negative stuff is going to creep up even faster because that’s your comfort zone. You wanting to change your thoughts, your way of thinking, the way you see yourself - that’s uncomfortable. The negative stuff is going to creep in.
Marysol: Yes! It’s a matter of - how is your brain? Is it receptive to the negativity, to that baseline? Do you want to run back to that comfort or do you want to break through and get to the other side, which is abundance, happiness, and ultimate health? On that note, how would you define an “Un Billón Mindset?”
Jeffrey: “Un Billón Mindset” is going heavy, man. Leaving everything on the table. There’s a story that Les Brown always talks about how the wealthiest place on Earth is the cemetery. Because that’s where all the dreams, the possibilities, the inventions, the connections, the relationships that could have been are. He touches on how it’s our job, our duty and responsibility, to rob the cemetery of your genes, to rob the cemetery of your voice, to rob the cemetery of your contribution, to leave everything here. I think that’s one of the biggest challenges we all have because we sometimes tend to dim our light.
Marysol: That’s big.
Jeffrey: That’s big, right? We tend to dim our light because we don't want to shine too much or make people uncomfortable. But little do we know, by us doing that, we're unconsciously giving permission to the people around us to do the same, to dim their lights. Instead of us being that…
Marysol: That light. And amplifying other people’s lives.
Jeffrey: Exactly. So that they open up and they can believe and turn on their light and shine. That’s what “Un Billón Mindset” means to me. It’s leaving everything on the table, knowing that you’re getting better every single time. It’s not a short term process; it’s a long term process. Tony Robbins said it: “if you’re not growing, you’re dying.” Every day, you’ve got to grow a little bit. It’s not a lot in one day; it’s growing a little bit every single day.
Marysol: That’s right. Jeffrey had a Live (stream) on Instagram yesterday, and I hopped on real quick. He was talking about this gladiator speech that Tony taught us. I, myself, went to a Business Mastery last August.
Jeffrey: Oh, love it!
Marysol: It was amazing. I flew out to Florida, and I sat next to all these platinum partners. I had three people text me, “Hey, are you going to ‘Date With Destiny?’ because here’s the pre-party to the pre-event.”
Jeffrey: Yeah, that’s his favorite, right? Date With Destiny.
Marysol: Oh, man. I haven’t been to that one.
Jeffrey: Me neither.
Marysol: But I did Business Mastery in person. But yeah, just like you, you look at the cost of a ticket, travel, hotel, everything. But you know what? It’s a matter of figuring out the How, getting the resources, doing multiple things, whatever you need to do to pay off your debt fast. If you have a credit card, let’s say it’s a 30k limit. You want to be able to have the money available to pay it off fast. It’s like Jeffrey said, “I had saved that money.” That’s the thing to do; you save it first and then you pay with the credit card, and then you pay it off. But fast forward, there was this gladiator speech. It had to do with “winter is your season.” It’s all about the mindset. Again, the purpose of this podcast is inspired by my song, which I know Jeffrey listened to at the event the day I met him. Thanks so much, by the way! You never know who will support you, who will tell you what you need to hear and when you need to hear it. It’s often strangers who will see a certain side of you and will end up mentoring you and loving you, perhaps bringing things up more than your own family. Be open to new relationships. Be open to growth. Be open to the stretching of the self, whether it’s because you need to pay for a ticket. Don’t just look at the ticket; know of the future, of the relationships. Will this person lead you to this person, and so on and so forth? It’s all worth it in the end. You’re investing in the “you” five years from now, not the “you” of tomorrow.
Jeffrey: Absolutely.
Marysol: And it’s all a compounding effect. Jeffrey, I’m so happy to have bumped into you and gotten to know you. You’ve got a beautiful family.
Jeffrey: Thank you.
Marysol: I’d love to dive deep into a boy versus a man. Can you tell us that real quick? What’s the big differentiator?
Jeffrey: That’s a good question because that took me a while to understand. My wife plays a huge part in my success. She helped me grow up. I was a kid when I met her, a knucklehead. I didn’t care about anybody else but Jeffrey. She allowed me to slow down and I think when I met her, that was one of the biggest blessings. Why? Because I had just gotten my work permit. I was in that stage where I didn’t really care, and when I met her, my daughter was 2 months old and my son was 2 years old. We moved in within six months and that’s when it hit me like, “Dude, I gotta grow up. It’s not about you anymore, Jeffrey. It’s not about you anymore.” Now you have a big responsibility. We got married six or nine months after we moved in together. “Now you have a bigger responsibility. Now you have to provide for them. Now you’ve got to be an example.” Like with my kids, today we were touching on during the call, one of the guys shared that his son actually calls him now. He’s 28 years old and he calls his dad for advice, and he looks up to him. That’s what I want. I want my kids to look up to me. I want to be an example of possibility. I think I’ve instilled a lot of those positive traits in them. So that’s what growing up means to me and becoming a man. Now it’s about other people; it’s not just about you. By taking care of other people, you automatically take care of yourself.
Marysol: That’s beautiful. Un Billón!
Jeffrey: Yeah! I learn so much more from my kids. It’s insane. They catch onto things fast. The other day, I was listening to a podcast and my son was listening in the background and he said what the guy was going to say already. I was like, “Damn, how?” And he’s like, “Dad, I hear you listening to this all the time. I’m already getting programmed.” I’m like, “Beautiful. I want you to be in that conversation. I want you to stay in that context.”
Marysol: Yes, shake the hands of people at your level or above so that you keep learning and eventually plot your way there.
*Blooper*
*on the phone*
Marysol: Hi, good morning!
Jeffrey: The call dropped?
Marysol: My power wasn’t plugged in.
Jeffrey: Oh, no worries. *laughter*
Marysol: I’m hoping it’s saved! That was gold right there.
Jeffrey: It shows it’s still recording. I’m right here.
Marysol: We took a little commercial break. So Jeffrey, where is the best place our listeners can find you?
Jeffrey: I think Instagram and Facebook. @jeffreypinzon. Just my name and last name. Simple. On Facebook as well. Then our podcast is called “Unleash Your Power.” You can find that on YouTube. That’s pretty much it. I’m always on Instagram, so if you want to catch me on Instagram, yeah.
Marysol: Brilliant. Let’s go to the top, everyone. Un Billón!
Jeffrey: Absolutely, let’s do it. Arriba!
Marysol: Thanks for tuning in! Like, subscribe, share, and we’ll see you next time!
Jeffrey: Take care.
